Nevis
December 12, 2010
We sailed to Nevis to visit Peter and Caol Willauer who have a home here. Peter was director of the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in Penobscot Bay, Maine, when Maggie worked there in the late 1970s. He is currently creating the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership on the island. Their website is hurricaneisland.net. Check it out!

Arriving Saint Martin
We sailed from Jost Van Dyke to Virgin Gorda Sound on Friday, December 3, 2010. At the Newport Boat Show in September, Al had gotten free drinks tickets to the Bitter End Yacht Club. We drank painkillers there and watched the sunset.
The next morning we left at 0430 for Saint Martin. We could see the Southern Cross low on the horizon. Light winds and calm seas allowed us to motorsail to Marigot and comfortably make the 1730 bridge opening into the Lagoon. After checking in at Customs on Monday morning, we went to our favorite Patisserie, Serafina's. Maggie always gets a cafe au lait and brioche, while Al likes tea and a custard cake. So French!

We spent five days in Saint Martin, mostly doing boat chores: changing engine oil, oil and fuel filters, attempting to suss out the problem with the starboard navigation light (new lightbulb didn't do it!), provisioning, several trips to Budget Marine and NAPA, and laundry. We had a fabulous meal at the Tropicana (foie gras for Maggie) and stocked up on our favorite French cheese, St. Felicienne.
